Begrenzte fossile Rohstoffe und der weltweite Anstieg des Energiebedarfs machen es notwendig, Alternativen zur jetzigen Energie- und Rohstoffversorgung zu finden. Biomasse lautet ein Schlüsselwort, denn aus Pflanzen, beispielsweise Getreide, aus Holz und auch Kompost können in Bioraffinerien Kraftstoffe oder Grundstoffe für chemische Produkte hergestellt werden. Im Rahmen des internationalen Symposiums "Biorefinica" am 11. und 12. Oktober im Zentrum für Umweltkommunikation der Deutschen Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) in Osnabrück wird eine Bestandsaufnahme vorgenommen, werden Zukunftsoptionen diskutiert. Dabei werden die Potenziale von Bioraffinerien und biobasierten Produkten identifiziert und die besten Konzepte weiterentwickelt.
