Der Doktorand Carsten Meyer von der Universität Göttingen hat eine Auszeichnung der British Ecological Society (BES) für eine Fotoaufnahme von verendeten Haien erhalten, denen die Flossen abgeschnitten wurden. Das Bild erzähle die Geschichte eines ökologischen Problems, so die Jury. Haifischflossensuppe ist ein beliebtes Essen in Asien, der Verkauf von Haifischflossen erlaubt enorme Gewinnspannen.
