Wissenschaftler des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Photonische Mikrosysteme IPMS in Dresden nutzen seit einigen Jahren Herstellungstechnologien der Mikrosystemtechnik, um kapazitive Ultraschallwandler als MEMS-basierte Strukturen - so genannte CMUTs, Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers - zu entwickeln und herzustellen. Der Einsatz von CMUTs zur Ultraschallerzeugung und -erkennung ermöglicht energiesparende, umweltfreundliche und äußert kompakte messtechnische Systeme und könnte zukünftig etablierte Technologien ergänzen und neue Einsatzgebiete erschließen. Das Institut stellt seine erste Generation von CMUT-Chips sowie einen ersten Demonstrator, der die Funktionsweise eines CMUT-Bauelements zeigt, auf der Messtechnik-Messe SENSOR+TEST vom 5. - 7. Juni 2014 der deutschen Fachöffentlichkeit vor.
