Bereits im Dezember 2011 hat der eCl@ss e.V. ein Dokument veröffentlicht, welches offene Fragen zum Produktdatenaustausch mittels eCl@ss und dem weitverbreiteten Katalogaustauschformat des Bundesverbandes Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logistik e.V. (BME), dem BMEcat beantwortet.

"Mit der Kombination eCl@ss - BMEcat steht für alle eCl@ss-Anwender, die Produktdaten effizient austauschen möchten, nun eine sehr gute Lösung bereit. Somit kann eCl@ss neben anderen Formaten den BMEcat für den Austausch von eCl@ss-Produktdaten nur empfehlen." so Henning Uiterwyk, technischer Leiter des eCl@ss e.V.

Die Weiterentwicklung des BMEcat-Formates, welches nun auch die Elemente des neuen eCl@ss-Advanced Datenmodells transportieren kann, ist ebenfalls bereits verfügbar. Das beschriebene Format ist
