Auch vor der Einführung der neuen Gesundheitskarte ist der aktuelle elektronische Heilberufsausweis (Version 2.1.0.) vielseitig einsetzbar. Auf der Medizinmesse MEDICA (15.-18. November 2006 in Düsseldorf) stellt die dgnservice, Zertifizierungsdiensteanbieter für den eHBA, verschiedene Anwendungsszenarien vor, in denen die Karte elektronische Geschäftsprozesse nutzbringend unterstützt. So dient der Ausweis als sicheres Zugangsmedium zum Fortbildungsportal der Ärztekammer Westfalen-Lippe sowie zum online einsehbaren Versorgungskonto der Nordrheinischen Ärzteversorgung.

Die Signaturfunktionalität des eHBA wird anhand von Anwendungen demonstriert, die über das Doctor-to-Doctor-Verfahren (D2D) realisiert werden: Heilberufsangehörige können mit dem neuen Ausweis elektronische Arztbriefe sowie Berichte für Unfallversicherungsträger (im Rahmen von DALE-UV) digital unterzeichnen und via
