Die Siemens VDO Automotive Corp. übernimmt das Geschäftsfeld Elektroantriebe von Ballard Power Systems Inc. in Dearborn, Michigan/USA. Ballard Power Systems Corp., eine Tochtergesellschaft von Ballard Power Systems Inc., entwickelt und fertigt mit rund 80 hoch qualifizierten Mitarbeitern Elektroantriebe für Brennstoffzellenfahrzeuge. Die Übernahme wird voraussichtlich Anfang 2007 abgeschlossen.

"Der weltweit wachsende Hybridmarkt wird bis zum Jahr 2015 ein Volumen von 10,6 Milliarden US-Dollar erreichen. Mit dieser Akquisition bauen wir unsere technologische Kompetenz in der Entwicklung innovativer Hybridantriebe konsequent weiter aus und stärken unsere internationale Wettbewerbsfähigkeit", erklärte Dr. Klaus Egger, Mitglied des Bereichsvorstandes Siemens VDO anlässlich der Vertragsunterzeichnung.
