A Strong Combination: METROTOM - CALIGO - Vast Scan
CALIGO software and new scanning technology make computer tomographs from Carl Zeiss even more powerful
In addition to the hardware, the software is vital to the performance of a measuring machine. The latest software solution from Carl Zeiss is CALIGO measuring software which replaces the previous standard for the measurement of freeform surfaces in car body metrology. CALIGO is now also available for the METROTOM computer tomographs. As 64-bit software, CALIGO is particularly well suited to process the large quantities of data generated in computed tomography. A modern 3D CT reconstruction with METROTOM generates up to eight gigabytes of data.
Fast and easy
CALIGO makes metrotomography faster in many aspects: during the programming process, the user can create and save templates in just a few steps. This accelerates the programming of new parts. The software also enables faster visualization of the volume data and a faster comparison of the respective part and CAD model, and therefore quickly delivers the plan-actual comparison needed for downstream processes. Furthermore, CALIGO is easy to use; operators can now modify the user interface to meet their needs.
Scanning increases productivity
With VAST CT Scan, Carl Zeiss has also developed a new technology that can deliver images up to ten times faster if needed. Carl Zeiss has thus achieved a breakthrough that provides measuring technicians with considerable advantages regarding flexibility. Depending on the requirements, users can decide if they need a fast measuring result with somewhat less resolution, or a high-resolution result that takes longer. With VAST CT Scan from Carl Zeiss, users influence their measurements based on the speed requirements.
Fast repeat thanks to the repetition mode
Measuring programs often have to be repeated. Thanks to the Repetition Mode, this will be considerably easier on METROTOM in the future. Numerous parts are manufactured using a single tool. The quality inspection of these parts always follows the same pattern. From now on, technicians only need to program METROTOM once: the system remembers these settings and inspects the remaining parts at the push of a button. This enables non-expert users to quickly and easily perform the repeat measurements.
"Computed tomography is now well established in industrial metrology. With CALIGO software and VAST CT Scan technology, we have enhanced the metrotomographs from Carl Zeiss considerably regarding performance," says Dr. Huber Lettenbauer, who is in charge of the Systems & CT business unit at Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology.
