CiA members have plugged together CANopen devices and linked them via an interface board to a Siemens PLC. The attending companies (Bernecker & Rainer, Faulhaber, Systeme Helmholz, Joucomatic, Schneider Toshiba, and Wachendorff) stressed the devices by means of high busload. Most of the connected devices were running without significant problems. Interesting was that the CANopen master interface was able to support Node/life guarding and Heartbeat functionality simultaneously. The linked I/O modules, inverter, motion controller, and human machine interface exchanged PDOs with the Siemens PLC in both directions, transmitting and receiving.
