Discovering Start-Ups 2012 Finalists and Keynote Speakers Announced
The 20 finalists in the national Discovering Start-Ups 2012 competition have been announced and will now pitch their innovative wireless technologies and business plans to world leading venture capitalists, angel investors and wireless industry leaders on 21 November in London. The judging panel will include senior executives from companies such as Broadcom, RIM, Vodafone Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Google, Orange, TTP Ventures, Cambridge Business Angels, Silicon Valley Bank and many more.
In addition to getting valuable feedback from the judges, the finalists and other delegates will hear from Debu Purkayastha, Principal - New Business Development at Google, on the subject of 'Why Start-ups matter to the Big Tech Giants and what they look for in M&A or Investments'. Other speakers at the event include Miles Kirby, Managing Director, Qualcomm Ventures Europe and Dr. David Cleevely FREng FIET, Chair of Judges and Chairman of Cambridge Wireless, organisers of Discovering Start-Ups 2012 in partnership with Silicon South West.
The finals take place at the London headquarters of legal firm Taylor Wessing and are sponsored by Google, Rohde & Schwarz and SETsquared Partnership

Anvil Semiconductors: Using patented technology to develop Silicon Carbide (SiC) power semiconductor devices for the same price as Silicon (Si) technology
Bardowl: smartphone and tablet app to access audiobooks via streaming
BioDigitalHealth: Multi-modal wireless human-computer sensing including brain, eye, gesture, voice and heart
Blendology: interactive 'tap-to-connect' badges and devices to engage, interact and exchange information with other people at events
Carbon Hero: app that automatically detects a user's mode of transport and calculates the journey's carbon footprint
Collide: social app for locating friends and flagging nearby local cafes, bars and restaurants with money-off vouchers
EI Technologies: smartphone app and web-based assessment system that enables patients with depression and anxiety to improve self-awareness of their emotions
InputDynamics: a virtual button on the casework of a mobile handset that detects taps from the user for smarter functionality
Itechland: intelligent multiparameter node for wireless sensor networks in smart homes, factories, care, and rescue systems
Lutebox: online and mobile social mall to videochat and shop with family and friends
PatientSource: all-in-one electronic inpatient medical records, ePrescribing, booking and appointments system
Ringtrack: lightweight, low-powered and highly adaptable M2M device with range of sensors and GSM/GPS location technology
Senta Technologies: internet security platform with innovative device authentication, polymorphic encryption and data protection
Skin Analytics: cloud-based service for monitoring small changes in moles to detect melanoma skin cancers
Smart Antenna Technologies: innovative antenna technologies for portable devices including 4G handsets
Smart Study: social learning mobile apps for reference and revision that allow students to test each other in real time
TopicLogic: web service to help busy professionals instantly find and share their files wherever they are
Ubitech: multimedia platform that allows smart devices to communicate to each other in a ubiquitous manner
UVuu: smartphone video creation platform for groups using multi-user behaviour to drive automated creation and processing
As well as prestigious Discovering Start-Ups trophies, the five winning start-up companies will receive a £500 cash prize sponsored by Qualcomm Ventures and a free delegate ticket to Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona provided by UKTI, along with the opportunity to present at the Future of Wireless International Conference next July and a year's free membership to SETsquared - to the total value of around £5,500.
