Die Lokalisierung von Software ist eine technische, sprachliche und organisatorische Herausforderung. In der Fachzeitschrift für Dolmetscher und Übersetzer MDÜ 2/11, die am 17. April 2011 erschienen ist, empfiehlt François Massion, dass Übersetzer und Entwickler gemeinsam alle Phasen der Lokalisierung planen und ihre Zusammenarbeit langfristig auslegen sollten. Dann können die Texte effizient in ein für Übersetzer verwendbares Format gebracht werden. Zur Dateivorbereitung sollten Spezialwerkzeuge eingesetzt werden. Das MDÜ 2/11 beschreibt dies für die Werkzeuge SDL Trados Studio 2009, SDL Passolo 2011 und PrepTags Pro.
