Die Zunahme von Erkrankungen, insbesondere von chronischen Krankheiten, macht den Einsatz neuer biologischer Medikamente unabdingbar. Der Hauptfokus dabei ist, die Therapie für den Patienten auch bei der Anwendung im häuslichen Bereich sicher, einfach und komfortabel zu gestalten. Diese Therapieform erfordert neue Wege in der Verabreichung von injizierbaren Arz-neimitteln. Beispiele hierfür sind neuartige Bolus-Injektoren oder Patch-Pumpen für z.B. die Insulintherapie. Die Herausforderung in der Entwicklung solcher Systeme ist das breite Spektrum an Medikamentenviskositäten und Abgabemengen, die sich zwischen wenigen Mikrolitern bis hin zu 30 ml je Injektion bewegen können.
