bmp media investors AG (ISIN DE0003304200) has acquired a 5.34% interest in komoot GmbH in a round of financing. Alongside bmp media investors, other investors include Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH, Potsdam, and KRW Schindler Investments S.A., Luxembourg.

komoot GmbH, based in Potsdam, offers an app of the same name for outdoor activities that allows users to plan and adapt bike rides and hiking expeditions in line with personal preferences using appropriate routes.

Based on several hundred million data sets, including from OpenStreetMap, NASA and Wikipedia, and with machine learning from user data, komoot compiles the best destinations and routes to make personalised suggestions for outings. In doing this, komoot is the first route planner to also take into account factors such as types of road, surfaces, inclines, etc. Users are reliably guided by simple and precise voice instructions; topographic background maps can also be saved to users' phones, enabling navigation even in areas without a data network.

Markus Hallermann, Managing Director of komoot GmbH, explained: 'komoot successfully launched throughout Europe this summer. Using the funds from the financing, we want to continue to expand our team and position komoot more prominently on a global stage in the recommendations area.'
