Malen Sie noch oder steuern Sie schon? Damit Prozessmanagement über die reine Dokumentation von Prozessen hinausgeht, müssen Prozesse als Steuerungs- und Arbeitsobjekt in den Mittelpunkt gerückt werden. Hierfür bietet die Kontinuierliche Prozessoptimierung oder der Kontinuierliche Verbesserungsprozess (KVP) einen hervorragenden Weg. KVP ist weniger ein Werkzeug, als vielmehr eine Weise zu denken, eine Methode Abläufe und Prozesse wahrzunehmen und systematisch zu verbessern sowie eine Art der Unternehmensführung. Der PDCA-Zyklus ist eine Kernmethode der kontinuierlichen Prozessverbesserung (KVP). Er beschreibt einen 4-stufigen Regelkreis mit den Phasen Plan, Do, Check und Act und ist ein umfassendes Modell zur Problemlösung und zur Steuerung und Optimierung von Prozessen. PDCA ist damit der Erfolgsfaktor und das grundlegende Modell der andauernden Verbesserung.
