KRAFTWERK wurde ursprünglich von Cairo Solar Farm für eine Machbarkeitsstudie in Bezug auf drei Regionen in Ägypten beauftragt: Assuan, Assiut und Sharm El Sheikh. "Die verfügbare Netzkapazität ist der wichtigste Faktor und bestimmt die technische Machbarkeit. Dank der ägyptischen Netzinfrastruktur, die durch die Übertragung großer Kapazitäten aus dem Hydrokraftwerk am Assuan-Staudamm bestimmt wird, bildet die Übertragungsleitung eine gute Grundlage für die Integration von utility-scale PV-Kapazitäten", so Karsten Schulte, Geschäftsführer von KRAFTWERK und fügt hinzu: "Die Anlage wird an das 220-kV-Hochspannungsleitung angeschlossen und rund 50.000 Familien mit Elektrizität versorgen."
Das Bewerbungsverfahren für Cairo Solar Farm zur Teilnahme am Einspeisevergütungs-Förderprogramm hat KRAFTWERK erfolgreich durchgeführt. Hisham Tawfik, Vorsitzender des Cairo Solar Farm, zeigt sich sehr zufrieden mit den Fortschritten, "Wir sind glücklich mit der Unterstützung von KRAFTWERK und freuen uns auf die Umsetzung, die voraussichtlich in Q2-2016 beginnt". Um lokale Präsenz zu gewährleisten, hat KRAFTWERK bereits im August ein Büro in Kairo eröffnet.
