Temperatures are measured by PT100/PT1000 sensors and need the according measurement amplifiers. Depending on the application one of these two miniature packs are used.
The differences of the two amplifiers are defined in the following:
At first please note the line resistance when connecting 2-wire technique to a PT100 sensor. It leads to a distor- tion of the measurement result. These faults can be avoided with using 3-wire – or even better – 4-wire technology.
In PT1000 measurements this fault is less significant, as the voltage is smaller, thanks to the higher resistance. Therefore the line resistance leads to a smaller fault. An additional positive effect of the smaller voltage is, that the sensor does not heat up as much.
Just decide on what is more suitable for you, as bmcm certainly has got both measurement amplifiers for a choice in stock.
Important features of the MAL-PT series:
- size: 24-pin DIL IC
- 80Hz bandwidth
- differential input
- measured quantities:
temperature (PT100/1000), -60..300°C
- linearization
- sensor supply 1mA
- output filter 6dB/oct.
Backplanes (BP series) of different type (e.g. in a water-proof box, as PC slot card) and size (2, 8, or 16 slots) provide for comfortable connection and amplifier supply by the PC data acquisition system.

Measuring amplifiers in miniature format: This is not just true for the extremely compact design but also for the price allowing safe and reliable measurements with electrical isolation.
