WITTENSTEIN at SPS IPC Drives 2012

A perfect match: two top players - the ideal team

(PresseBox) (Igersheim, )
cyber dynamic line of brushless DC motors and simco drive smart servo amplifiers

At the SPS IPC Drives exhibition from November 27 to 29, WITTENSTEIN AG will once again show an array of innovative new and optimized products. Four Business Units will be represented at the Group's Stand 221 in Hall 4:

- WITTENSTEIN alpha GmbH - Specialist for precise driving, operating and controlling
- WITTENSTEIN cyber motor GmbH- Leader for dynamic AC servo motors and actuator systems
- WITTENSTEIN motion control GmbH - Partner for integrated rotary and linear servo systems
- WITTENSTEIN electronics GmbH - Intelligent electronic and software components for mechatronic and drive technologies

Among the numerous innovative exhibits, the double première of a new servo amplifier series and a new family of brushless DC motors will be a particular highlight.

simco drive: Innovative, smart servo amplifiers

The "simco drive" series was specially developed by WITTENSTEIN motion control for electronically commutated (EC) servo motors with up to 500 W continuous power and 1 kW peak power. Designed with IP65 protection, these amplifiers can be installed in the field at distributed locations, i.e. directly adjacent to the actuators. This not only means far less wiring compared to centrally arranged servo amplifiers; it also allows the entire actuator solution to be flexibly integrated into the architecture of a wide range of machines. The operating personnel are guided by an intuitive graphical user interface whenever the machine is started up, diagnosed or serviced, enabling integration or maintenance work to be completed very efficiently in minimal time. simco drives offer maximum openness and flexibility when data is transferred to the control level or when communicating with the actuators. Depending on the version, fieldbus integration can be realized using CANopen or EtherCAT interfaces - with a choice between ENDAT 2.2, BiSS C or resolver, STO (Safe Torque Off) to SIL2, high resolution current control and event logging with a real-time clock for the encoder interfaces.

cyber dynamic line: More than just a brushless DC motor

cyber dynamic line is a new family of brushless DC motors with a 17, 22, 32 or 40 mm diameter that enlarges WITTENSTEIN cyber motor's portfolio of three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors. This electronically commutated motor series, which was designed for performance ranges between 25 and 335 W, creates new opportunities for machine design with a set of advanced and innovative features. Thanks to the high dynamic factor, it achieves higher acceleration values as a starting point for correspondingly higher throughputs and cycle rates. Another advantage of the motors in the cyber dynamic line is their high torque constant. All motors in the series have a magnetic encoder with a resolution of 1024 increments and an open BiSS interface as standard.

Precise traversing and positioning tasks at high speeds, for example in the packaging and component placement industries or in robotics and handling systems, are just one of the typical challenges mastered by the new brushless DC motors. The cyber dynamic line opens up a number of avenues to new markets. Protected by a rugged, one-piece stainless steel housing, these new motors are much more compact and lighter than rival products with comparable torque. This, and the high efficiency resulting from their optimal use of energy, paves the way for novel applications in battery powered and often mobile devices because the operating cycles between two charging processes are now considerably longer - with positive repercussions for availability. And since this high efficiency goes hand in hand with dramatically reduced heat input, measuring applications also stand to profit from cyber dynamic line motors.
