Conference in Hamburg will pave the Way of PV´s Future

Collective Intelligence: EU PVSEC unites global researchers, industry representatives & policy makers

(PresseBox) (München, )
Solar PV technology has already exceeded its deployment goals under the European Union's renewable energy targets for 2020. The 13th five-year plan of China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) aimed a 100GW target for solar PV by 2020. Now it is widely speculated, that Chinas goal will be raised to an optimistic 200GW. The US solar PV market is growing almost by 40% every year. Solar PV energy is on the advance worldwide!

These very positive indications for a bright future of PV energy are no reason for the PV experts to sit back and relax. Quite the contrary: The world´s brightest minds of the sector meet at EU PVSEC annually, to work out ways to enhance the competiveness and implementation of PV and strengthen its position in the global energy mix of the future.

This year the melting pot for innovations, latest research results and strategies will be in Hamburg, Germany. The ingredients are more than 1,300 presentations and 3,000 PV experts. The results after five intensive days will pave the way for PV´s future.

The traditional kick-off is the Scientific Opening Session. The most important personalities of the sector mark in their keynote speeches the launch of the event, addressing the current position and challenges for PV energy.
The first contribution will be presented by A. J. Nozik from the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy). The title of his lecture: “The promise and challenge of nanostructured solar cells”.

The following presentation is addressing to a perennial issue: “Improvements in Sunlight to Electricity Conversion Efficiency”. M.A. Green and M.J. Keevers from the University of New South Wales (Australia) will give a deep insight into the global goals of this evergreen topic.

“Towards Ultra-High Efficient Photovoltaics with Perovskite/crystalline Silicon Tandem Devices” looks at one of the hottest news areas in PV research and will be of the final contribution of the opening scientific part. It will be presented by Christophe Ballif, representing a multi-national team of researchers from EPFL - École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), CSEM - Centre Suisse d'Electronique et Microtechnique (Switzerland) and ISFH - Institut für Solarenergieforschung Hameln (Germany).

High-level personalities will welcome the global PV community in the following Political Opening. Stefan Rinck (Conference General Chairman, Member of Main Executive Board VDMA and Chairman Committee for Research and Innovation, CEO Singulus Technologies) will guide through the welcome and political addresses. These will include as representatives from the European Commission DG Energy Andreea Strachinescu and from the research community Professor Eicke Weber, Director Fraunhofer Institute – ISE / President of EUREC – The Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres.

The panel discussion moderated by Paolo Frankl (International Energy Agency, Head of Renewable Energy Division) will be the final act of the Opening Session. The issue will be Europe’s role to take PV to the next level – focusing on cost effective integrated supply solutions. From politics and researcher to investors – the point of views will be diverse.

The panellists will be Giovanni De Santi (Director, Institute for Energy and Transport JRC, European Commission), Carsten Agert (Managing Director – EWE Research Centre Next Energy), Pierre Bernard (CEO and Chairman of the Board, Friends of the Supergrid), Milan Nitzschke (Solarworld), Oliver Schäfer (President SolarPower Europe).
