Der Schweizer Kommunikationsspezialist NetModule AG, die Zürcher Hochschule Winterthur und Wind River arbeiten gemeinsam daran, weitere Feldbus-Standards neben PROFINET mit dem Hardware-Support des "Enhanced Real-Time Ethernet Controller" (ERTEC) von Siemens auszustatten. Geplant ist, Standards wie Ethernet/IP, Modbus/TCP und ETHERNET Powerlink zu unterstützen. Damit soll die Leistungsfähigkeit der offenen ERTEC-Technologie für ein breites Spektrum von Anwendungen erschlossen werden. Die Lösung für Ethernet/IP wird kommerziell im ersten Halbjahr 2007 über NetModule verfügbar sein. Die Auslieferung der Echtzeit-Stacks für Modbus/TCP und ETHERNET Powerlink ist kurz danach vorgesehen. Die Industrial Ethernet ASICs ERTEC 200 und ERTEC 400 wurden speziell für den industriellen Einsatz entwickelt. Diese hochperformanten Ethernet-Controller mit integriertem Real-Time Switch und 32-Bit-Mikroprozessor ermöglichen den einfachen Anschluss von Geräten und Systemen an PROFINET. Durch die Implementierung weiterer Protokoll-Stacks auf der ERTEC-Plattform wird die für PROFINET entwickelte Hardware auch für andere Real-Time Ethernet-Lösungen nutzbar gemacht. Die Gerätehersteller profitieren dadurch von der Möglichkeit, die Anzahl der Hardware-Varianten ihrer Produkte zu verringern und die verbleibenden Varianten in größeren Stückzahlen herzustellen. Mit den bestehenden, ursprünglich für PROFINET entwickelten Geräten können nun neue Anwendungen auf der Basis von Ethernet/IP, Modbus/TCP und ETHERNET Powerlink erschlossen werden. Da keine Hardware-Anpassungen notwendig sind, lässt sich die Zeitspanne bis zur Markteinführung neuer Lösungen signifikant verkürzen. Die ERTEC-Unterstützung schließt alle Real-Time Ethernet-Lösungen, die IEEE 802.3-konforme Adressierungen und Zugriffsmechanismen verwenden, ein. Derzeit sind Ethernet/IP, Modbus/TCP und ETHERNET Powerlink geplant. Typische Anwendungen der neuen Lösungen sind Geräte wie z.B. IO-Devices, Encoder oder Drives. Die Lösungen sollen weltweit (Europa, USA und Asien) angeboten werden. Man rechnet damit, dass die Implementierung der neuen Echtzeit-Stacks neue Märkte eröffnet. Im Rahmen der Kooperation übernimmt das Institute of Embedded Systems (InES) der Zürcher Hochschule Winterthur die Implementierung und das Testen der ERTEC-unterstützten Echtzeit-Stacks sowie deren Weiterentwicklung. NetModule überführt die Lösungen in industriell nutzbare Produkte, vermarktet diese und stellt dafür den notwendigen Support sicher. Wind River liefert mit dem Echtzeit-Betriebssystem VxWorks die technologische Softwarebasis und unterstützt die Hochschule im Rahmen ihres Universitätsprogramms bei deren Anwendung.

Über das Institute of Embedded Systems der Zürcher Hochschule Winterthur
Das Institute of Embedded Systeme (InES) forscht und entwickelt im Gebiet von vernetzten, in Prozessen eingebetteten Systemen. Seine Kernkompetenzen sind hochverfügbare, echtzeitfähige Kommunikationslösungen und die hochgenaue Zeitsynchronisation auf der Basis von industriellem Ethernet, verschiedene Wireless-Technologien sowie Ingenieurmethoden für solche Systeme. Die rund 40 Mitarbeiter (Dozenten, Wissenschaftliche Assistenten, Angestellte) erbringen jährlich Leistungen für externe Unternehmen im Umfang von rund 3 Mio. CHF und intern ca. 1,5 Mio.
