Largest construction project in the history of W&H completed

(PresseBox) (Bürmoos, )
The medical technology company W&H has completed the most extensive construction project in its 130-year history. One of the region’s largest production and development centres has been emerged. With a final 40,000 m², the total area was doubled. Three additional factory halls, a new company restaurant, a modern logistics centre, and the training campus were built.

The ceremonial opening of the expanded plant II took place in the new "Meet & Eat" company restaurant with guests from politics, business, and the workforce. Governor Dr Wilfried Haslauer expressed his appreciation for the successfully completed construction project: "The investment has a positive effect on Salzburg and the entire industrial location. I can only congratulate W&H on this successful project". Likewise, Peter Eder, president of the chamber of labour, underlined the project’s importance for the Flachgau area and expressed his conviction that "the expansion will have a lasting effect on the region’s labour market."

An investment in the future

With the W&H training campus, a major construction project was implemented in May. Now, with plant II, another important milestone for the future of the company followed. The medical technology manufacturer has invested around 60 million euros in the project. Regarding the completion, after an intensive planning and 4-year construction phase, company owner Peter Malata commented: "For W&H, investments in the company are the basis for innovative future development, modern working environments, satisfied customers, and a sustainable family business. We deliver quality – made in Austria – to over 130 countries."

Technology & sustainability

In addition to the new factory halls, existing halls were converted, a high-tech surface finishing facility was built and a new logistics centre was created. Now, the digitised intra-logistics concept "Servus" ensures optimised material flow and automated transport throughout the entire plant II, thus alleviating the employees’ daily work routine. With the new electroplating plant, W&H achieves optimum quality, safety, and environmental protection in surface finishing using advanced technologies. Environmental management is being pursued with full vigour in all projects in order to achieve W&H's ecological and sustainable goals. Cooling and heating are provided by local heat pump technology.  Electricity is generated by the large-scale 536 kWp photovoltaic system. The by-products resulting from production are recycled and reused internally – circular economy par excellence. "W&H is a healthy employer. We use state-of-the-art technologies and work in a resource-conserving manner. This is an important concern for us and the future of the company," explains KommR DI Peter Malata, Managing Director of W&H.

“Meet & Eat” – space for encounters and connections

Under the name "Meet & Eat", 700 m² of space for exchange and meeting were created as part of the construction project. The name says it all. Throughout the whole day, the light-flooded company restaurant offers the opportunity for joint meetings, as well as the chance to enjoy healthy and regional cuisine.
