Auch Biosprit muss umweltfreundlich hergestellt werden

Am 19.07.2011 hat die EU-Kommission sieben Zertifizierungssysteme für Biokraftstoffe anerkannt.

Ziel ist die Gewährleistung der nachhaltigen und umweltfreundlichen Produktion von Kraftstoffen.

Dazu zählt beispielsweise, dass Kraftstoffproduzenten keine Regenwälder abholzen dürfen, um dort z. B. Zuckerrohr für Biokraftstoff anzubauen. Auch soll der Nachweis geführt werden, dass der Biokraftstoff im Vergleich zu fossilen Kraftstoffen CO2 einspart.

Staaten dürfen künftig auch nur noch Biosprit begünstigen, der mit einem solchen Siegel versehen ist.

Die Anerkennung gilt ab sofort in allen EU-Staaten.
