(PresseBox) (Detmold, )
Weidmüller receives the Functional Safety Management Certificate in accordance with EN 61508:2010 from TÜV NORD. The certification body thus attests that Weidmüller has introduced and operates a management system for functional safety in accordance with EN 61508:2010 to conduct the development of safety-relevant electrical, electronic, programmable components and subsystems. The certificate confirms Weidmüller's competence in developing safety-related products with a high quality standard. Every year TÜV NORD conducts a quality assurance audit; recertification takes place every five years.

Manufacturers or operators of safety-related systems or components are obliged to adhere to the requirements of IEC 61508:2010 for the "management of functional safety". This obligation extends across the entire product lifecycle, i.e. from the first concept through to decommissioning or deinstallation of the product. Weidmüller offers an extensive range of certified products, including ACT20X analogue signal conditioners, SAFESERIES safety relays for the emergency shutdown of systems and system parts, VARITECTOR SSC surge protection in the terminal block for measurement and control technology, as well as safety modules from the u-remote I/O system. With these products, Weidmüller meets the needs of its national and international customers to undertake developments in accordance with this standard. Weidmüller thus demonstrates that customers receive products that fulfil the highest quality standards.

Systems with complex interaction of hardware and software are increasingly deployed to manage safety-relevant processes. The development of such systems demands special methods and processes to meet the requirements for functional safety from an economic perspective. IEC 61508:2010 can be integrated in existing management systems for this purpose.

Aim of the Functional Safety Management System

The product lifecycle of safety-relevant systems or components in accordance with IEC 61508:2010 is effectively safeguarded and optimised to meet business needs through the use of demand- and process-oriented quality management. The best possible integration of the standard in an existing management system is an essential step here. All the management activities called for by the standard for all new products are covered in the implementation of safety management systems. In the future, the definition of new projects then only takes place by means of the simple and concise Project/QM Plan.

Conclusion: Weidmüller offers tailored solutions for applications in the process industry and in machine safety for implementing the basic and advanced requirements from IEC 61508:2010. The Functional Safety Management Certificate from TÜV NORD confirms that the products have been developed according to the system.
