Wassermann management consultants helped Baltic Metalltechnik introduce efficient logistics processes modeled on the material flow principle at the company's Grevesmühlen location. The targets defined after performing value stream mapping of the supply chain were attained with the project's conclusion. The aim of the change management project was to continue manufacturing in an all in all quality aware and timely fashion and at minimal cost. To this end, Baltic Metalltechnik for one part succeeded in reducing in-house logistics complexity and stock levels significantly. For the other, in order to increase productivity, production stages were consolidated, process oriented workflows were initiated, and the production flow was streamlined by identifying and eliminating capacity bottlenecks.
The achieved efficiency gains in manufacturing workflows helped cut the average order throughput times from 64.5 to 35 working days. This is equivalent to a reduction by more than 45 percent. At the same time, Baltic Metalltechnik succeeded in lowering production costs by 4.1 percent, measured in working hours. By streamlining warehouse and in-house logistics including consolidating storage sites, the company managed to reduce bound capital by 5.6 percent and the in-house logistics processing effort dropped by 37.4 percent.
