VSY Biotechnology Patent protecting the Pre-loaded Intraocular Lens Injector systems’ innovative design has been granted by the Japan Patent Office (JPO). JPO has registered the patent called Ancillary for the Storage and the Injection of Intra Ocular Lens protecting Pre-loaded IOL injector systems developed by VSY Biotechnology.
In 2015, with its vast know-how and its R&D center's power, VSY Biotechnology filed a patent for the innovative aspects of its new Pre-loaded IOL injector design. Following the international patent application to WIPO, VSY Biotechnology pursued applications to EPO, USP, JPO, and Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO).
The Japan Patent Office published the decision to grant in April 2020, and finally, the patent was granted in September 2020. The patent protection for this technology will be valid until 2036.
VSY Biotechnology’s unique cartridge injector system has an innovative rotational function for ease of use while injecting the lens through a micro-incision in the patient’s eye in a folded state. The injector system is compatible with lenses made of hydrophilic or hydrophobic materials.
The patent has been previously granted in Luxembourg, Turkey , EPO and United States. The EPO granted patent had been validated in 14 countries. The next grant we expect to receive is from KIPO.
* Pre-loaded system reduces the risk of operator error in pre-op processes such as placement of lens to the injector, providing fast and easy operation in cataract surgeries
* Minimizes the contamination risk in the pre-op processes, thereby increasing patient safety
* Reduces operational costs since the system can be used with balanced salt solution (BSS) instead of viscoelastic materials.
