VINSPECsolar allows automatic, camera-based quality inspection of all types of solar cells

Vitronic camera systems in photovoltaics

(PresseBox) (Wiesbaden, )
With approx. 1,000 VINSPECsolar systems already installed, VITRONIC is one of the world's leading providers of camera-based inspection systems for photovoltaics. As part of a customer project in the camera-based quality inspection of solar cells, the 150th type of solar cell in the current generation has now been taught-in.

The various types of solar cells can differ significantly in terms of size, shape, color or imprint. Automated quality inspection of different types of solar cell therefore put high demands on the flexibility of the inspection system. Each characteristic of the object to be inspected is taught-in by the default software so that it can be identified with certainty in quality control. Most types of solar cells are taught-in to cell inspection systems which carry out inspections on the cells in module production. Over 60 module and cell manufacturers all over the world already count on the reliable quality inspection from VITRONIC.

VINSPECsolar solutions allow the automated in-line quality inspection of wafers, solar cells and complete modules. In this, the high-performance camera systems reliably detect defects such as micro cracks, corner and edge breakages, print defects and color defects. They ensure that only flawless solar cells are processed into modules, reduce the rejection quota and trigger other processes such as automated sorting by color classes or into A and B quality. This makes time and cost-intensive inspection and handling processes a thing of the past. Moreover automatic inspections are much more robust and secure. Major customers attest quality sorting of about 99.8 percent.

Another advantage: the data collected during the quality inspection can also be used to optimize the processes themselves. For example, they provide information on where optimization is needed in the process chain.
