Polysun 10.1: Compare and present system simulations at a glance

Polysun gives clear answers to burning questions about our energy supply

(PresseBox) (Winterthur, )
Swiss software maker Vela Solaris has just published version 10.1 of the leading dynamic simulation software for renewable energies, Polysun. Several systems can now be compared at a glance, both energetically and economically. With this, Polysun again sets new benchmarks in analyzing and comparing simulation results.

Having experienced a boom for years, the renewable energy sector has entered a phase of distress. Reductions in sales in the solar thermal sector can be called worrying. The photovoltaic industry tries to re-position itself after lucrative feed-in tariffs have ended. The rising cost of electricity endangers the commercial viability of heat pumps. Consumers are confused by the “energy revolution” proclaimed in many countries. Many of them revert to outdated technologies instead of thinking about and installing future-proof energy generation systems, as they are left without clear answers to their burning questions: Given low prices for natural gas, are solar thermal systems still economically viable? How to use power generated through photovoltaics if feed-in does not make financial sense anymore? Will the drilling costs for a ground-source heat loop be paid back eventually?

Polysun 10.1 has answers to all these questions, and it offers them at a glance in a user-friendly way. This provides sales engineers with a powerful tool to convince their clients of the solution that is best for them both energetically and economically. The following example makes it clear that the system that is most expensive to install will turn out to be the financially best over the years. While a pure PV system (yellow curve) pays an economic yield fastest when compared to a system without the use of solar energy, the combination of both PV and solar thermal (blue curve) is most cost-efficient in the long run. In other words: the biggest solar system is best not only ecologically, but also economically! In hybrid systems like the one in the example, Polysun shows the strength of its modular design. No other software can combine different technologies with one another and compare them at a glance.

Overview of the new features offered by Polysun 10.1
  • Easy comparison of simulation results of several system diagrams
  • Possibility of exporting results in .csv
  • Enhanced tabular evaluation in hourly, 15 min. or time-step values, enabling an easy data export
  • Great improvements of the profitability calculation:
    • Easy comparison of several system diagrams
    • Annual values
    • Payback period of PV systems compared to a reference system without solar
    • Various improvements regarding display and reports
  • New cooling templates
  • Updated weather profiles
  • New catalogues and database updates (Photovoltaikforum, Solar Keymark and SPF databases)
