Die kürzlich abgeschlossene Erweiterung des Valmet Automotive Batteriewerks in Salo steht vor dem Hintergrund der Vereinbarung mit Volvo. Das Batteriewerk wurde um 3.500 Quadratmeter auf eine Gesamtfläche von nun 23.500 Quadratmeter erweitert. Installiert wurde unter anderem eine neue Batteriemontagelinie, zudem wurde der Logistikbereich erheblich vergrößert.
Für das Werk Salo bedeutet der Auftrag von Volvo den Einstieg in die Produktion von Hochvolt-Batterien am Standort. Valmet Automotive montiert die Batterien und liefert diese als einbaufertige Komponenten an Volvo. In Salo werden die Batterien für alle Plug-in-Hybride der Volvo-Serien 60 und 90 gefertigt, die in den Werken in Göteborg, Schweden, und Charleston, USA, produziert werden.
Die Hochvoltbatterien für Volvo werden auf einer völlig neuen, von Valmet Automotive konzipierten Produktionslinie mit modernster Technologie montiert. Für die Batterieproduktion im Auftrag von Volvo sind im Werk Salo rund 250 Mitarbeiter beschäftigt.
