u²t Photonics Samples 40G DQPSK Dual Balanced Receiver

(PresseBox) (Berlin, )
u²t Photonics AG, the provider of innovative, leading edge optoelectronic components such as highly functional integrated receivers and modulators, today announced the availability of its integrated DQPSK receiver for longhaul 43 Gbit/s communication systems. u²t is now sampling this new product for system level testing to both, subsystem and equipment manufacturers.

The QPRV1010A receiver consists of two balanced receivers implemented in a single, ultra compact package reducing the required board space by 70%. The use of bendinsensitive ribbon fiber, such as the Draka Bendbright Elite Fiber Ribbon, allows for tight routing and precise skew control of the connection between the DQPSKdemodulator and the receiver. A coplanar electrical interface avoids the need for rfcables which significantly reduces cost and matches the newly available SERDES IC's supporting a surfacemount interface. The use of a TIA with a linear output signal also enables transponder and system designers to further improve the overall system performance by using EDC (Electronic Dispersion Compensation) technologies. The receiver provides two sensitive peak level detectors for convenient feedback control of the demodulator.

"This new product enhances our portfolio of highly integrated and very compact solutions", said Jens Fiedler, VP Sales and Marketing at u²t, "We are convinced that components such as our QPRV1010A further reduce the overall cost for 40 Gbit/s systems and help our customers to accomplish a very efficient system design."

u²t announced the availability of prototypes of its new product platform starting in March this year. The QPRV series is scheduled to be ready for volume production in the second half of 2010. The product will be displayed at the u²t booth #1312 at OFC in San Diego, California, March 22nd to 25th.
