Mobile Sicherheitsrisiken adressierte Trend Micro daher bereits 2004 mit der Markteinführung der ersten Version von Trend Micro Mobile Security. Die Lösung wurde speziell für Smartphones mit Symbian- sowie Microsoft-Betriebssystemen konzipiert und bietet weiter entwickelten Schutz gegen Malicious Mobile Codes, inklusive SMS-Spam und mobile Viren.
Durch ihre wachsende Popularität werden datenfähige Mobilgeräte zu einem attraktiven Angriffsziel für Malware-Programmierer. Die TrendLabs, das weltweite Netzwerk aus AntiViren-Forschungszentren von Trend Micro, hat in der Vergangenheit bereits mehrere Proof-of-Concept-Codes identifiziert, die sich gezielt gegen mobile Geräte richten. Zu den bekanntesten Exemplaren gehören SYMBOS_CABIR, ein Wurm, der sich über Bluetooth verbreitet, SYMBOS_COMWAR, Malware, die Bluetooth und MMS als Infektionsweg nutzt und SYMBOS_PBSTEAL, Trojaner mit Spyware-Merkmalen, der Anwenderinformationen zu stehlen versucht.
