Vom 2. bis 6. Juli 2008 werden zum mittlerweile achten Mal seit 1992 der Freistaat, die Stadt Erfurt und das Theater Waidspeicher Gastgeber des internationalen Puppentheaterfestivals SYNERGURA sein. Erwartet werden 14 Ensembles aus vier europäischen Ländern. Die Künstler aus Frankreich, Italien, Spanien und Deutschland wollen auch in diesem Jahr Kinder und Erwachsene mit ästhetisch anregenden und emotional aufregenden Inszenierungen begeistern. Geplant sind über 30 Vorstellungen an verschiedenen Spielorten. Nach der letzten Vorstellung im Theater "Die Schotte" findet ein großes Musikfest statt. Kultusminister Müller sagte im Vorfeld: "Mit der SYNERGURA ist Erfurt eine Top-Adresse der internationalen Puppenspielszene geworden. Kleist, der in seinen Bemerkungen 'Über das Marionettentheater' die Faszination des Puppenspiels eindrucksvoll beschrieben hat, wäre stolz auf dieses Festival. Die Förderung des Theatertreffens ist ein wesentlicher Beitrag zum Erhalt der vielfältigen Kulturlandschaft im Freistaat."
