Thomson Earns Euro-PacketCable™ and Euro-DOCSIS ® 2.0 Certification for its THG520 VoIP Cable Modem

Validation by independent certification testing lab, tComLabs, and certification by Euro-DOCSIS/Euro-PacketCable Certification Boards confirms interoperability and reliability of Thomson’s VoIP solution for cable networks

Paris, (PresseBox) - Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS), partner to the media & entertainment industries today announced the certification of its embedded multimedia terminal adapter (MTA), the THG520. Awarded by the Euro-DOCSIS/Euro-PacketCable Certification boards, independent certification bodies verifying compliance and interoperability on cable equipment based on Euro-DOCSIS and Euro-PacketCable standards, this certification marks the strengthening of Thomson’s product portfolio for cable operators.
A standalone voice-over IP cable modem, the THG520 enables cable operators to offer simultaneous voice and high-speed data services over a broadband network. Both Euro-PacketCable and Euro-DOCSIS 2.0 certified, this product supports 2 independent phone lines. It is also a particularly versatile product, since it can also be supplied with SIP*-capable software for seamless integration with many existing telephony network protocols.

This dual solution is very flexible and well adapted for customers who have not yet decided which protocol to use, or who need to manage a progressive migration of their telephony services.

- This product will enable cable operators to increase Average Revenue Per Unit (ARPU), and move to a full triple-play offering at minimal incremental cost.
- Thomson, as one of the leading residential telephone manufacturers worldwide intends to leverage its strengths by proposing MTA and telephony bundles to facilitate cost-effective deployments for cable operators.
- The next step in triple-play convergence is now possible, with the integration of the MTA in a digital set-top box, due to be commercially available in the 3rd quarter of 2005.

“We are delighted to receive this certification, which acts as further evidence of the quality and reliability of Thomson solutions on which our customers depend”, said Frédéric Kurkjian, Vice President Cable Worldwide at Thomson. “Certification from renowned and independent bodies such as the Euro-DOCSIS/Euro-PacketCable Certification boards also further underscores our n°2 position worldwide in cable modem deployments.** We are committed to enabling our customers to increase their revenue streams through the delivery of additional services to a greater number of subscribers. Naturally, this includes IP voice services as supported by our newly certified THG520,”Kurkjian added.
