Smart Telecom, a leading Irish telecoms provider, has selected Thomson (Euronext 18453; NYSE; TMS) to provide an end-to-end solution for its launch of advanced triple-play packages.
In support of the Smart Telecom services, Thomson will provide a solution integrating its comprehensive IPTV solution with its Cirpack VoIP softswitch to enable unique communications services in addition to interactive and on-demand video. Smart Telecom, who has its own DSL network has purchased Thomson’s set-top boxes, VIBE MPEG4 encoders, Sapphire video-on-demand servers, and SmartVision IPTV service platforms.

Using Thomson’s unique chipset embedded within Thomson’s video encoders and content access via HD and PVR set-top box platforms, Smart Telecom will also be able to deliver HD quality video to most its subscribers.
