Über einen eigenen Treiber werden Lese- und Schreibzugriffe direkt auf die Karte adressiert (ioMemory VSL, Virtual Storage Layer). Dies ermöglicht eine sehr hohe I/O Performance, die mit herkömmlichen RAID-Systemen kaum erreicht wird. Ein direktes Booten vom ioDrive ist aufgrund des speziell notwendigen Treibers nicht möglich.
