This vision was created by working with Canadians all across the country. The ideas of various groups, including, food producers and processors, experts in environment, health and food security, Indigenous groups, non-government organizations, and community advocates were utilized by the Canadian government.
The government plans on investing millions of dollars to fund this policy. To start they plan on creating a Canadian Food Policy Advisory Council which will play a central role in the policy. Many more objectives and goals are expected to come from this new Food Policy. Many of these goals involve increasing access to safe, healthy, and diverse foods, preventing mislabelling of foods, and protecting consumers.
“The Food Policy for Canada is our roadmap for a healthier and more sustainable food system for our country. The investments and initiatives in the food policy will contribute to economic growth, better nutrition, and food security for all Canadians,” said Marie-Claude Bibeau, minister of agriculture and agri-food.
