In cooperation with Siemens Enterprise Communications and Charismathics, Dr. Fehr GmbH developed a multi function USB-Token biometrics secured identification device (BSID), which secures the identification of it’s users via their biometric traits. This USB-Key, with an integrated fingerprint system, is a solution for today’s constantly changing mobile und virtual business world where highest security standards are required.

The pocket sized BSID provides users with multiple access rights, electronic signature and encryption key functions as well as a storage and backup-system for sensitive data. An authorized user is easily authenticated via two factors: the smart card inside the integrated class 2 smart card reader and the associated PIN released by the fingerprint. The fingerprint also protects data and applications stored in the integrated flash memory. The USB flash memory is also bootable which allows the user to employ a personal operating system. Two integrated RFID-transponders enable contactless functions, such as building access or electronic payments.

All reference data of a user, required for proper authentification, is secured inside the USB token. The integrated biometrics system works independently, without access from external systems . The BSID supports all major smart card operating systems through the strategic relationship with Siemens Enterprise Communications, Charismathics and Dr. Fehr. This solution emphasizes the Open Communications strategy of Siemens Enterprise Communications.
