Je nach Umgebungsbedingungen werden in Hochspannungs-Anlagen bzw. -Systemen unterschiedliche Anforderungen an die Verkabelung gestellt. Wenn Platzmangel besteht, ist das wichtigste Kriterium der Kabel-Außendurchmesser. Bei niedrigen aber auch hohen Umgebungstemperaturen ist die Wahl des Isolationsmaterials ausschlaggebend. Zudem sind bei Anwendungen im Vakuum Isolationsarten erwünscht, welche silikonfrei und ausgangsarm sind. Ein Beispiel hierzu ist die silikonfreie Litze von Telemeter Electronic Art.-Nr. 45307. Sie besitzt einen Durchmesser von 1,5 mm, und kann bei Spannungen bis 20.000 V DC eingesetzt werden. Darüber hinaus hält sie Umgebungstemperaturen bis +200 °C stand.
