Mining projects and mining jurisdictions

(PresseBox) (Herisau, )
Mining Journal Intelligence has announced the jurisdictions with the highest and lowest risk.

The World Risk Report 2024 shows where mining projects encounter many or few risks. According to the report, Ontario has the lowest risk worldwide. The Canadian province was given a risk rating of A, meaning there are only low risks. Ontario scored very well in terms of legal risks, social and governance. It achieved seventh place in the new environmental risk category. Nevada came in second best. The US state was particularly convincing in the legal risk, environmental and governance categories. The rating in the social risk category was not quite as good. In any case, 18 of the 20 best jurisdictions are from Canada and the USA. The study examined 117 jurisdictions worldwide, covering the risks of legal, governance, social, financial, environmental and infrastructure.

At the bottom of the hit list, as the country with the greatest risk, was Venezuela (risk rating D). All categories achieved only weak ratings. The Democratic Republic of the Congo came second to last. Russia, Tajikistan, Guinea, Mali and Burkina Faso scored similarly poorly. Overall, global risks reached new highs in 2024. The region with the highest risk was Asia

Mineral deposits alone are not enough to attract investment. The whole environment should also be right. Competitive taxes, a solid regulatory system or the duration of approval procedures are important points. Of course, the expertise of the management or how a company is financially positioned are also important factors.

Companies from the royalty and streaming sector such as Osisko Gold Royalties - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/osisko-gold-royalties-ltd/ - or Gold Royalty - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/gold-royalty-corp/ -, which focus on North and South America, are likely to be in a good position.

In addition to diversification through large portfolios, both companies operate in very good and mining-friendly jurisdictions.
