Lithium, nickel and cobalt for progress

(PresseBox) (Herisau, )
Among industrial raw materials, battery metals are particularly in demand, because the future cannot function without them.

According to the International Nickel Study Group, there is currently still a surplus supply of nickel. The supply from Russia is increasing, as is that from Indonesia. However, the economic outlook is improving, which should boost demand again. The nickel market should therefore grow in the coming years, even if the price is currently trending sideways. The metal is becoming increasingly important as a battery component. This is because vehicle electrification is on the rise and if more nickel is used, the range of electric cars will increase. Nickel is also used in the production of alloys and stainless steels. Even if a tonne of nickel is currently available for just under USD 16,000 and prices have already been significantly higher, the metal should be kept an eye on.

Cobalt is also indispensable for electric vehicles in the medium term. And the growth potential in the electric car market is huge, as the trend is clearly moving towards electric cars and larger, more powerful batteries. By the end of 2022, there were already more than one million registered electric cars in Germany. Incidentally, new registrations of electric cars in Norway amounted to more than 82% in 2023.

For example, Canada Nickel Company - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/canada-nickel-company-inc/ - owns nickel and cobalt at its high-quality Crawford project in Canada. The feasibility study is positive. Lithium, which is needed for the batteries, is of course an indispensable raw material when it comes to electromobility. Many experts are predicting a shortage of this raw material in the future.

Companies such as U.S. Critical Metals - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/us-critical-metals-corp/ - with lithium, cobalt and rare earths in the projects (in Nevada, Montana and Idaho) should be on the right track.
