Plätze 6 und 8 für Iannone und Rins

Ein solides Rennen auf Phillip Island/AUS bescherte dem Team Suzuki Ecstar zwei Plätze in den Top Ten. Andrea Iannone konnte lange in der Spitzengruppe fahren und um einen Platz auf dem Siegerpodest kämpfen.

Andrea Iannone ging aus der zweiten Startreihe ins Rennen und konnte gleich von Beginn an in der Spitzengruppe mitfahren. Lange sah es danach aus, als könne der Italiener sogar aufs Podium fahren, in den letzten Runden musste er jedoch aufgrund von nachlassendem Grip an den Reifen das Tempo etwas drosseln.

"Es ist schon eine Weile her, dass wir das gesamte Rennen über in der Spitzengruppe mitfahren konnten"", freute sich Iannone nach dem Zieleinlauf über die gesteigerte Performance. "Suzuki und das ganze Team haben in den letzten Wochen hervorragend gearbeitet und wir konnten einen großen Schritt nach vorne machen. Deshalb bin ich sehr zuversichtlich für die Zukunft!"

"Gleichzeitig ärgere ich mich jedoch auch, dass ich das Rennen nicht weiter vorne beenden konnte", schränkte der Italiener ein. "In der Schlussphase lag ich sogar für kurze Zeit auf dem zweiten Rang, aber ich hatte einfach nicht mehr genug Grip um mit den anderen mithalten zu können. Trotzdem - ich habe alles gegeben und denke wir können bald noch bessere Ergebnisse nach Hause bringen."

Iannones Teamkollege Alex Rins hatte das Qualifying Q2 am Samstag denkbar knapp verpasst und musste mit Startplatz 13 vorliebnehmen. Doch der Spanier ließ sich davon nicht entmutigen und verbesserte sich mit einem tollen Start schon auf dem Weg zur ersten Kurve um einige Plätze. Rins zeigte im Anschluss ein sehr konstantes Rennen und verlor den Kontakt zur Spitzengruppe erst in den letzten Runden.

"Sechs oder sieben Runden vor Ende des Rennens verlor der Hinterreifen spürbar an Grip und ich musste meine Ambitionen nach vorne einstellen", erklärte Rins die Situation in der Schlussphase des Rennens. "Die GSX-RR lag trotzdem sehr gut und ich bin nicht unzufrieden mit meinem Ergebnis. Wir haben gute Fortschritte gemacht und es war sehr schön, mit beiden Motorrädern in den Top Ten fahren zu können. Unser Team konnte das Motorrad deutlich verbessern und auch ich persönlich konnte in den letzten Wochen zulegen, deshalb blicke ich sehr positiv in die Zukunft!"

Auch Teammanager Davide Brivio zeigte sich mit dem Auftritt seiner beiden Schützlinge und der Performance der Suzuki GSX-RR zufrieden: "Nach dem guten Auftritt beim Regenrennen in Motegei, ist es sehr schön, dass wir auch hier bei trockenen Bedingungen in der Spitzengruppe mitfahren konnten. Beide Fahrer haben eine starke Leistung gezeigt und bestätigt, dass wir auf einem gutem Weg sind. Jetzt müssen wir diesen positiven Trend auch in den beiden letzten Rennen der Saison fortsetzen."
