MotoGP Weltmeisterschaft Katar, 17./18. März

Andrea Iannone fährt beim ersten Lauf zur MotoGP Weltmeisterschaft in Katar auf Platz 9. Alex Rins kann während einer starken Startphase in der Spitzengruppe mitfahren, stürzt jedoch unglücklich.

Wie aus den letzten Jahren bekannt, wurde auch das erste Rennen der MotoGP Weltmeisterschaft 2018 unter Flutlicht auf dem Losail International Circuit in Katar ausgetragen. Das Team Suzuki Ecstar war nach guten Testresultaten selbstbewusst zum WM-Auftakt gereist und konnte sich zum Saisonstart in starker Form präsentieren.

Vor allem Alex Rins glänzte bereits am Samstag mit schnellen Rundenzeiten und konnte sich auf Platz 6 in der zweiten Startreihe qualifizieren. Der Spanier erwischte auch am Sonntag einen guten Start ins Rennen und konnte lange Zeit in der Spitzengruppe mitfahren. "Ich habe mich wirklich gut gefühlt und konnte das Tempo mitgehen", versicherte Rins nach dem Rennen. "Lediglich auf den Geraden war es schwierig. Als ich mit Petrucci kämpfte, wollte ich meinen Platz verteidigen und bin dabei leider gestürzt. Sehr schade, aber ich habe im Rennen einiges gelernt. Ich weiß, dass wir das Potenzial für deutlich mehr haben und in Argentinien wird es besser laufen."

Andrea Iannone klagte das ganze Wochenende über ein nachlassendes Gefühl für sein Vorderrad und wollte deshalb auch im Rennen nicht überpacen. "Ich habe mich nach einigen Runden nicht mehr rundum wohl gefühlt und wollte keinen Sturz riskieren", erklärte der Italiener die Situation im Rennen. "Ich denke es lag daran, dass die Bedingungen ganz anders waren als beim Test. Es war wohl nur eine Kleinigkeit an der Abstimmung, die uns gefehlt hat. Insgesamt betrachtet, war mein Auftakt deutlich besser als im letzten Jahr und ich habe ein gutes Gefühl für die nächsten Rennen. Deshalb kann ich den nächsten GP in Argentinien kaum erwarten."

Teammanager Davide Brivio war nicht glücklich mit dem Abschneiden seines Teams beim Auftaktrennen, doch der Italiener zeigt sich zuversichtlich für den weiteren Saisonverlauf. "Natürlich sind wir über unser Resultat in Katar nicht froh", gab Brivio unumwunden zu. "Es ist total schade, wie das Rennen von Alex geendet ist. Aber wir sind auf einem guten Weg mit ihm und er hat noch viele Möglichkeiten seine Fähigkeiten zu beweisen. Andrea hatte einen guten Start, hat dann aber sein Gefühl zum Vorderrad verloren. Also müssen wir weiter daran arbeiten sein Feeling auf der GSX-RR zu verbessern, damit er voll angreifen kann. Aber trotz allem bin ich guter Dinge für die nächsten Rennen, denn wir haben auch einige positive Entwicklungen in Katar gesehen."

Das zweite Rennen der MotoGP Weltmeisterschaft findet am 8. April in Termas de Rio Hondo/ARG statt.
