Global Solar Partners with Four U.S. Roofing Specialists

New supply contracts for the most powerful flexible solar modules in the world

(PresseBox) (Berlin, )
Berlin, Germany – October 24, 2011 – Global Solar Energy, manufacturer of the world’s most efficient flexible solar modules, has announced new partnerships with four leading specialist roofing companies in the U.S. The companies – Soprema, Beachside Solar, Inovateus Solar and Pfister Energy – will now develop building-integrated photovoltaic solutions using flexible Global Solar Energy modules and incorporate them into large-scale projects.

“Our flexible modules can be integrated extremely quickly and seamlessly into roofing systems and generate around twice as much power as flexible amorphous silicon modules,” explains Jean-Noel Poirier, chief sales officer of Global Solar Energy. “These new collaborations come on the heels of partnerships we have established throughout Europe and we are delighted with the strong demand for our products in the U.S.,” continued Poirier.

The Soprema Group is a leading provider of flat-roof waterproofing systems and has numerous branch offices across the globe, specializing in commercial roofs in the U.S. Beachside Solar is one of the largest solar system integrators in Hawaii and the South Pacific region. Inovateus Solar is an industrial and commercial roofing specialist, and Pfister Energy offers turnkey renewable energy system solutions.

Weighing just 3.5 kilograms per square meter, Global Solar Energy’s flexible PowerFLEX BIPV modules are particularly well-suited to use on industrial roofs where structural specifications often prevent the use of heavy glass modules. The thin-film modules are rolled out flat onto the roof and then affixed to the roof surface. No roof perforations or mounting hardware are required, and installation is fast and cost-effective as a result. Measuring 5.75 x 0.5 meters, the modules offer a high power density of up to 300 Watts. High module efficiencies of up to 12.6% are achieved thanks to a unique mixing ratio of copper, indium gallium and diselenide.

About Global Solar Energy

Founded in 1996, the company is a leading manufacturer of copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) solar cells on flexible substrates. Global Solar Energy processes these cells into flexible solar modules which, thanks to their low weight and flexible properties, are particularly well-suited to use on industrial roofs and in entirely new building-integrated applications. Owing to their excellent suitability for transportation, the solar cells are also employed in innovative products such as portable folding solar chargers.

The Global Solar Energy Group headquarters are located in Tucson, Arizona and boast a cell and module production capacity of 40 megawatts (MW). Solar cells and modules are also manufactured at the site in Berlin-Adlershof, which has a production capacity of 35 MW. A total of 300 staff are currently employed across the company’s different sites.
