Sumitomo Drive Technologies builds PARAMAX Competence Center in Spain

(PresseBox) (Markt Indersdorf, )
In 2018, Sumitomo (SHI) Cyclo Drive Germany GmbH integrated the Spanish Sociedad Industrial de Transmisiones (SIT) into its corporate portfolio under the umbrella brand Sumitomo Drive Technologies. With this acquisition, the Indersdorf-based specialist for innovative gears and drive systems was able to expand its range of services in the field of industrial drive technology for the EMEIA regions. SIT has been a renowned distributor and service partner for large industrial applications in Spain and Portugal for 50 years. The comprehensive know-how of both companies was thus combined - with the focus on a gear unit product series that has been reliable for years: PARAMAX 9000, a functional, compact and heavy-duty industrial gear unit family with different designs. With this product, Sumitomo has been successfully serving industrial customers for decades in the core areas of conveyor technology, crane technology, dryers, drum drives, screw pumps and much more. With the expansion of the San Sebastián site now completed, delivery times for the EMEA plus India economic region have been drastically reduced to just a few weeks. In addition, the engineering team can react quickly and flexibly to customer requirements and to implement the numerous gear options as required. Paramax 9000 gearboxes thus complete the existing industrial gearbox portfolio, particularly in the torque range from 15 to 85 kNm for horizontal applications.

With the acquisition of the renowned Belgian company Hansen Industrial Transmissions NV, Sumitomo Drive Technologies integrated the production of industrial gear units into its portfolio as early as 2011 and can also offer all related services at its Edegem site. If the other pillars of the company are added: precision gear units, gearmotors, centrifuge drives and complete drive packages, industrial gearbox sector now accounts for around one third of the total sales of Sumitomo Drive Technologies in EMEIA.

Sumitomo is bundling its decades of joint experience and expertise in Spain as well and, with the establishment of the PARAMAX Competence Center, is creating a clear commitment to the San Sebastián location. Despite the worldwide crisis situation, the company is sticking to its measures/investments, thus creating future-oriented jobs and a reliable/sustainable contact point for industrial customers not only in Spain and Portugal, but also in the entire economic region of EMEIA.

In San Sebastián, a central office is being built where distribution, production, assembly, maintenance/repairs, warehouse logistics and customer services for the PARAMAX series will be available from one single source. In future, everything from small quantities to large orders will be processed here in a timely and customer-oriented manner. The conversion and expansion of the existing production facility took place over the last 9 months and was completed in October despite the local lockdown measures.
