Bevorstehender Sonnensturm: Gefahr für Datenträger?

Gemäß dem Institut für Astrophysik der Universität Göttingen sollte heute früh ein Sonnensturm auf die Erde treffen und etwa zwölf Stunden später seinen Höhepunkt erreichen / Besonders heftige Sonnenstürme können das Magnetfeld der Erde beeinflussen

Magnetische Stürme erzeugen elektrische Ströme, kleine Teilchen können Computerchips zerstören bzw. Programme zum abstürzen bringen.

Einer der schnellsten bisher aufgezeichneten Sonnenstürme in 2003 führte unter anderem zu einem mehrstündigen Stromausfall und zu einem Ausfall des europäischen Flugradars. "Damals zog das viele Computer und Festplatten Crashs mit sich." erinnert sich Kees Jan Meerman von Stellar Datenrettung - weltweiter Spezialist bei der Wiederherstellung von Daten.

Welche Schäden können bei Datenträgern auftreten?

Wenn ein Sonnensturm Stromnetze und Satelliten stört treten zwei Arten von Schäden auf.

Erstens kann ein sogenannter Head-Crash auftreten, wodurch die Köpfe der Festplatte erheblich beschädigt werden können. Der Verlust von Daten und andere sensible Informationen ist in diesem Fall wahrscheinlich.

Zweitens, das Dateisystem des PCs kann beschädigt werden. Auch bei dieser Art von Schaden, ist das Risiko von Datenverlust hoch.

"Bisher verfolgen wir die Presse, um Notfalls schnell reagieren zu können. Jedoch gab diese bisher keine Warnung." so Meerman.

Der im März 2012 angekündigte Sonnensturm verlief glimpflich.
