Das Digital Cinema-Team von Sony wird gemeinsam mit AMC an allen vier Standorten für den technischen Support und das Betriebsmanagement der 4K-Systeme verantwortlich sein. „Unser Ziel ist es, mit der SXRD-Technologie für das digitale Kino bislang unerreichte Auflösung, exzellenten Kontrast und damit eine überragende Bildqualität zu liefern", so Gary Johns, Vize-Präsident der amerikanischen D-Cinema-Gruppe bei Sony.
Die CineAlta-4K-Projektionssysteme, wie sie in den neuen AMC-Kinos eingesetzt werden, wurden entwickelt, um die Spezifikationen der DCI vollständig zu erfüllen. Neben der Wiedergabemöglichkeit von 4K- und hochskaliertem 2K-Content bieten sie volle Interoperabilität mit vorhandener Kinotechnik und nicht zuletzt einen umfassenden Sicherheitsstandard. Die Systeme sind untereinander mit dem Sony Screen Management System verbunden. Die Filmindustrie gab kürzlich bekannt, dass sie zurzeit mit bedeutenden Filmemachern zusammenarbeitet, um Filme im originären 4K-Format zu produzieren. In den letzten Monaten haben die Hersteller zudem die Entwicklung von 4K-Kameras vorangetrieben. Laut Gary Johns arbeitet Sony nun an einem kompletten Produktionssystem für digitale Kinofilme, bestehend aus 4K-Akquisitions-, Speicher- und Infrastrukturlösungen.
