BSkyB Licences S3's StormTest(TM) to Automate Testing of its Set-Top Boxes

(PresseBox) (Dublin, Ireland / ANGA Cable 2009, Cologne, )
S3, a leading provider of products, services and IP to the Digital TV industry, today announced that BSkyB (Sky) has licensed its StormTest™ product in order to automate testing of its Set-Top Boxes (STB). StormTest is a STB test and analysis system. It removes the need for time-consuming, expensive and error-prone manual testing and replaces it with a more accurate and cost-effective alternative. Although S3 has been active in digital TV system testing for several years already, their StormTest product is now available for general release globally.

Due to the unique client/server architecture that S3 built into the StormTest product design, S3 can support remote testing, on-site testing and field testing to span the entire development cycle from early STB product development through to full deployment. Feedback from S3’s customers to date, which includes Operators, STB Manufacturers, Middleware and Conditional Access Vendors, is that the product offers superior features in terms of ease of use, flexibility and rapid integration with existing test and development environments.

"Sky is committed to finding innovative ways to improve our current operational methodologies and of driving even more value from our product development activity. S3’s StormTest was the automated testing solution which best met our needs and we chose the product predominantly for its ease of use, extensibility and ability to seamlessly integrate with our existing test environment.” said John Geraghty, Head of Conditional Access Services, BSkyB.

“With over 20 years experience pushing the boundaries with innovation in the Digital TV market, Sky is continuously evolving its range of Set-Top Boxes in terms of functionality and consumer ease of use. S3’s StormTest product is assisting Sky in dealing with the increasing number of complex and in-depth testing issues they face in a flexible and user-friendly manner. We are proud to add Sky, to our list of StormTest customers,” commented John Maguire, Director of Product Strategy, TV Technology, S3. “Our goal in life is to leverage our 15 years of Digital TV industry expertise to help our customers get quality boxes to market faster and to keep them in the field longer.”
