In the past year, we supported the organisation Artenglück GbR, among others, as part of our annual "Donations instead of Christmas cards" campaign. The three accomplished young people behind this organisation come from the Mittelweser region and are facing up to the acute threat to regional biodiversity and insect mortality. By planting perennial flowering areas using special insect-friendly seeds, habitat is created for native species. We support this great initiative by taking over a sponsorship for a 1,000 m² flowering area in the region of our Branch Office North.
Last week, the time had finally come: the flowering mixture was sown and our flowering area was created. The seeds come from the company Rieger Hofmann GmbH, which stands out for its regional seed mixtures. Rieger Hofmann only obtains seeds of native flowers from farmers in the respective region, to which they are then spread again.
Our flowering field is located on very nutrient-poor soil, which is ideally suited for the flowering mixture used, consisting of 40% cultivated plants and 60% wild flowering plants. The seed mixture contains over 50 different plant species, including sunflowers, poppies, cornflowers and marigolds. This diversity provides an ideal habitat for wild bees and many other insects.
We are already very excited about the development of our flowering field and would like to take this opportunity to thank Artenglück once again for their exemplary commitment, an interesting and extremely informative on-site appointment for the sowing of the seeds and for the great cooperation!
