Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR - TSX: SW) today announced that the company's test laboratories in both Richmond, British Columbia and Carlsbad, California have been granted CTIA Authorized Test Lab (CATL) status for Over the Air (OTA) Performance testing. Prior to becoming a CATL, both laboratories obtained A2LA accreditation for ISO17025:2005.
Facilities with this authorization are able to submit OTA test results for wireless devices and have them recognized by network operators for the purpose of network certification.
A considerable amount of work goes into the design, integration, testing and certification of wireless devices before they are allowed to launch on a mobile broadband network. Sierra Wireless offers significant expertise and support to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers during each stage of this process, including OTA testing at each stage of the development cycle; all helping to reduce development time and cost.
The authorization of Sierra Wireless test laboratories helps to streamline this process even further; allowing test results from Sierra Wireless to be officially submitted to multiple network operators as part of the network operator certification process. Previously, OEM products had to be sent to an outside CATL for the formal testing. This removes a step from the testing and certification process, saving OEMs the time, effort and cost of an additional third-party lab test.
