Expanded multiprocessor automation system for large plants in process engineering, power generation and drives

(PresseBox) (Fürth, )
Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has refurbished and added new functions to its Simatic TDC multiprocessor system for automating large plants. The new CP50M1 communications processor offers high-speed data exchange with equidistant message frame transmission via Profibus DP. All programming is carried out with Simatic standard tools like Step 7, CFC and SFC. The D7 SYS add-on software – encompassing everything from simple closed-loop control blocks right up to comprehensive technology blocks for motion control – now allows routing to all Simatic products. The overhaul also includes the mounting rack that accommodates up to 20 Simatic TDC CPUs and now also integrates the CPU backup batteries. The new 19" mounting rack is shielded against electromagnetic interference (EMI), is suitable for wall-mounting and cabinet-mounting, and has an integral power supply with active cooling and internal monitors.

Background information:

Simatic TDC is a multiprocessor automation system for large plants in process engineering, power generation and drives. It solves complex drive, closed-loop control and technology tasks with very large quantity structures and short cycle times from 100 microseconds. The system is modular in design with scalable hardware and up to 20 CPUs per mounting rack. The primary application areas are in metal production and metalworking, high-voltage DC transmission systems, and reactive power compensation systems for stabilizing power transmission. However, the system is also suitable for atypical applications such as the automation of large platform systems.
