Nonetheless, modernisation was required because a new process control system (PCS) had been installed at the nuclear power plant and new selections via Profibus had become necessary for the pumps.
The sera dosing pumps are used for the treatment of the cooling water for the cooling towers, taken from an adjacent river. The suspended matter in the river water is flocculated and precipitated by adding flocculating agent (FHM) and FeCl3. H2SO4 at 98% concentration and a hardness stabiliser subsequently ensure the correct pH value and the required water hardness.
State-of-the-art pump technology for maximum operational reliability
The operator requested that each pump unit would be backed up by a redundant pump, which would ensure ongoing operation in the event of the first pump failing.
All sera pumps are equipped with selection via Profibus as well as a frequency converter for the speed control. Furthermore, it was important for the operator that in the event of a failure of the process control system (PCS), each pump could be operated individually and manually. This is guaranteed by an optimised manual stroke adjustment as well as a separate Profibus cable for each pump. Thus, there is no "Profibus loop" and in the event of a failure of the PCS the pumps can also be operated manually without problems.
In addition, the proven diaphragm condition monitoring, installed at each pump, significantly contributes to the reliability of the systems.
Perfectly tailored to the customer's preferences
Since the Profibus dosing pumps were installed and commissioned on site by a sera installer, they have been working to the fullest satisfaction of the operator and his engineers since June 2010.
Thanks to the proven "sera Plug & Dose" principle and the "everything from a single source" service, consisting of preliminary consultation, technical and commercial handling of installation and commissioning as well as training and maintenance, a custom-tailored solution was delivered to the customer that will guarantee him many years of trouble-free operation.
