"Due to an incredible demand in the final week and at the request of several registrars who want the weekend to process a backlog of applications, we have extended the deadline," says Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry. "This extension will provide potential registrants with valuable time to secure their domains and/or remove registered trademarks from the registry to further protect their brand equity."
ICANN accredited registrar Secura accepts application for defensive registrations at .xxx till 15:30 UTC, October 31.
There is also a solution for companies, who want to protect the misuse of their company names, which are not protected as trade marks.
Given that they have not a registered trademark, the best option is for them to apply for the name they desire before General Availability Period, which opens on or about December 06, 2011. Before that period companies can apply for a non-resolving .xxx domain name, which is essentially a post-Sunrise block of the name.
ICANN accredited Registrar Secura forms a queue for General Availability in order to accept applications for non-resolving .XXX domain name. The intention of Secura GmbH is to protect intellectual property for domain names that do not have registered trademarks.
