Selbst der Pilotenschüler und Student der Luftfahrt können eine aero-domain registrieren. Es genügt eine website mit einschlägigen Inhalt oder eine Immatrikulationsbescheinigung/Unterrichtsbescheinigung.
Die .aero-domain ist eine beschränkte und exclusive domain. Sie ist nur für die Mitglieder der aviation community vorgesehen. Der Nachweis erfolgt durch die Angabe der Community Membership ID und des Passwortes. Hans-Peter Oswald von domainregistry.de erklärt dazu: "Falls Sie noch keine Community Membership ID und Passwort von SITA bekommen haben, reicht es aus, wenn Sie bei der Bestellung Ihrer aero-domain 'Credentials' angeben. Es genügt z.B. wenn Sie eine URL/Domain mit Luftfahrt-Inhalt (aviation content) nennen können, die Ihnen oder Ihrer Firma gehört."
Die aviation community ist eine große Gemeinschaft: Die Stewardess gehört dazu, der Modellbauer und der Segelflug-Verein. Sie alle sind zum Beispiel berechtigt eine .aero-domain zu registrieren. Sie können jeden beliebigen Begriff unter .aero registrieren. Er muß nicht mehr den Namen Ihrer Firma reflektieren oder sich auf eine Handelsmarke stützen. Die Regeländerung bedeutet aber auch: Fremde Firmen können Begriffe, die Ihnen wichtig sind, oder gar Ihren Firmennamen bzw. Produktnamen registrieren.
